CBI probe into Bhubaneswar minor girl gang-rape case sought

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Bikash Parisad has moved the Orissa High Court seeking a CBI probe into the sensational case of alleged gang-rape of a minor girl by several employees of a Bhubaneswar-based private news channel here.

A writ petition has been filed by Bharatiya Bikash Parisad in which it has also sought a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the victim girl.

Central Government, Odisha Chief Secretary, Home Department Secretary, Odisha DGP, Twin City Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar DCP and Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) Secretary have been made parties in the petition.

“Hon’ble Court may graciously be pleased to admit the writ application and issue RULE NISI calling upon the opposite parties to show cause as to why the Opp. parties 2 to 7 (Odisha Chief Secretary, Home Department Secretary, Odisha DGP, Twin City Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar DCP and Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Secretary) should not be directed take immediate action to book the accused under law and or otherwise to recommend the Govt. of India to investigate the matter by CBI and to pay compensation of Rs 30,00,000/- (thirty lakhs) to the poor affected minor girl,” the petitioner prayed before the court.

As per a complaint lodged by the mother of the victim with OSCPCR, the girl was gangraped by several employees of the channel for around 15 days during the month of April-May.

The accused committed the offence after tying the hands and legs of the girl. They also recorded videos of the incident and threatened the victim to leak it, alleged the girl’s mother who was working as a receptionist in the organisation.

The complainant further alleged that the accused had threatened the minor girl to kill her and her mother if the victim disclosed their name.

The victim’s mother mentioned in her complaint that though she reported the matter to the MD of the private news channel, the latter did not take any action against the accused and suppressed the incident. The MD also pressurised the complainant not to proceed further in the case, the victim’s mother alleged.
