CBI raids residences of arrested contractors of HAL for fund irregularities

Koraput: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today conducted raids on the residences of two contractors, who were arrested earlier in connection with financial irregularities of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

As per the available information, a five-member team of the CBI has raided the houses of G.Sudan Khusla and Sadananda Nayak, accused of committing a financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 1 Crore.

Sources said the CBI has registered FIRs against seven employees of the HAL.

The three arrested contractors had received Rs 5 crore from HAL between January and August, 2018, sources in the CBI said.

On October 13, the Sunabeda police had arrested three contractors on the charges of fraudulently transferring Rs 45 lakh to their bank accounts.

The main accused, Bhaben Maiti, a senior Manager (Finance) of HAL, is still absconding. Maitra, who was facing an inquiry into financial irregularities fled after burning official documents and currency notes worth Rs 1.67 lakh last Sunday.

On October 07, HAL Internal Vigilance Department and Sunabeda Police jointly raided Maitra’s official residence.

Notably, the fraud was detected in an internal audit and on being asked by Deputy General Manager Venkat Rao to produce authentic bills and vouchers, Maiti tried to offer a bribe.
