CBSE evaluation errors: Seven teachers from Odisha capital suspended

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Taking stringent action after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) faced flak over evaluation errors in class 10 and 12 examination papers, it suspended 130 teachers including seven from Bhubaneswar region.

The CBSE initiated action against 45 erring teachers from Patna, 27 from Dehradun, 14 from Chennai, 11 in Allahabad, seven in Bhubaneswar, six in Delhi, two in Guwahati and one in Trivandrum, and eight each in Ajmer and Panchkula after miscalculation upto 55 marks were found during re-evaluation of exam papers.

Out of total 130 erring teachers, the highest number of teachers is from Patna region where 45 teachers were responsible for error in the evaluation of class 10 and 12 examination papers.

The CBSE mentioned that the gross carelessness committed by 45 teachers from Patna resulted in severe hardships for the candidates and tarnishing the board’s reputation, a senior board official said.

The suspension notice has been issued to CBSE schools in Dehradun office after 27 teachers and coordinators identified for the miscalculation committed by them.

The re-evaluation process had started on June 1 for the students who had appeared for the class 10 and 12 examinations this year. The CBSE had declared the results in May last week. However, few students had expressed dissatisfaction with the marks awarded to them. They had applied for re-evaluation of their examination papers.
