Based on the CCTV footage, Twin City Commissionerate police today rounded up four accused for allegedly hurling bombs on Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera’s residence here yesterday.
The bombing incident in the Madhusudan Nagar area yesterday had created panic in the city. Soon after the incident the Commissionerate police had swung into action and begun investigation into the incident.
Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora had visited the site and initiated the probe into the daring bombing incident. With the help of CCTV footage, police today picked up four persons for allegedly involved in the incident.
The CCTV revealed that two persons with bombs in their hands hurled them from outside Behera’s residence. After executing their plan, the duo sped on a motorcycle driven by a man waiting a distance away.
Though local people chased the criminals for quite some distance, they could not apprehend the trio as they vanished from the scene in no time.
“I ran to the balcony after hearing the loud noise. I am surprised as to why someone would do this when I don’t have enmity with anyone,” Ashirbad Behera said.
Police have detained four persons for interrogation and have seized the bike allegedly used in the crime.
Police suspect that the incident could have been carried out with an intention to extort money from people.
“The main purpose to explode the powerful crackers was for extortion. Apart from the target home, their intention was also to create panic in the vicinity too so that it would become easy to extort money from them also. The mastermind is lodged in Choudwar Circle Jail,” Dr RP Sharma said.
