The new project, to be implemented on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, will have business etablishments set up high resolution cameras at their own expense. After installation, the cameras would be connected to the police control room via a leased line. The Commissionerate Police would provide the monitoring support and send PCR vans as and when required.

Busy market complexes of the city such as Unit-2 Market, Ashok Nagar Market, Bapuji Nagar Market, Ruchika Market in Baramunda, Indradhanu market in Nayapalli, Priyadarshini Market in CRP Square, Rabi Talkies Square Market, the market from Janpath cemetery to Master Canteen, Shahid Nagar Market and Cuttack-Puri road market will be covered under the project.

Given the presence of shops such as jewellery, electronics and other high value materials and repeated incidents of theft and loot, the police have advised business installations to use front facing high resolution cameras that can focus on objects up to 100 metres away.

A meeting has been scheduled between the market complex association and the Commissionerate Police at the office of the Commissioner of Police on February 24 to discuss the issue and listen to the suggestions from the association.

The police also plan to set up 14 CC cameras at the gates of state assembly and secretariat. While four of these would be Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras, the rest would be fixed ones.

The police also are considering setting up CC cameras in front of Raj Bhavan and the office of the Commissioner of Police to enhance the security.

It may be noted that 128 cameras have been set up in 28 important junctions of the city recently along with 99 cameras in 33 PCR vans. Another 90 junctions of the city are being planned to be covered under CCTV surveillance in two phases.
