Cease-work stir by Odisha HC lawyers to continue till Oct 30

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association today decided to continue the cease-work strike by the lawyers till October 30 against alleged police atrocity.

Informing about it, High Court Bar Association Secretary Satyabrata Mohanty said that the association has issued ultimatum to the state government till October 30 (12 noon).

“If no solution is made within the time period, members of all bar associations across the state will burn effigy of the Chief Minister on October 31. Later, we will also decide on gheraoing the CM’s residence,” he said.

The agitating lawyers are demanding arrest of the police personnel accused in attack on advocate Debi Prasad Patnaik.

It may be recalled that advocate Debi Prasad Patnaik had an argument with some cops in connection with a road accident at Nuabazar in Cuttack on August 28 night following which the policemen had allegedly beaten him.

Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh had suspended two constables and a havildar in connection with the attack.
