The Odisha government had earlier identified two locations for the institute at Gothapatna and Haridamada and proposed the HRD ministry to finalise one of the locations.

Later, a two-member team of Central committee, led by the additional secretary of HRD ministry Amarjit Sinha had visited the state capital on January 14. After visiting the two locations, the committee had found the 79-acre land at Gothapatna as the suitable location for the institute.

Reliable sources said that the committee has recommended this location to the HRD ministry.

It may be mentioned that the Union Finance minister had announced setting up of IIMs in five states including Odisha during presentation of Union budget for the year 2014-15 fiscal last year with a budgetary allocation of Rs 500 crore.

With the recommendation of the Central committee for commencement of classes for IIM- Bhubaneswar from July this year, it is hoped that the HRD ministry would take a decision on the approval of the location for the institute at the earliest.
