Centre advises Odisha to replicate YIT’s ‘Earn while you learn’ model

In a bid to overcome the growing unemployment crisis in the country, the Centre has asked all states, including Odisha, to introduce a new technical course to enable students to earn their salary while pursuing their studies.

engg collegeFollowing the success of Yashaswi Institute of Technology (YIT), Nashik in Maharashtra, the ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has asked the other states to implement such a course.

As per the directive of the ministry, the state Technical Education and Training department will sign MoUs with industrial units under which students, who have passed Class X and those who have completed three-year ITI course would be eligible for the four-year course.

Industries, which have signed MoU with the state government, will select students through a written and viva voce test.

These industries would provide necessary infrastructure for the students to pursue their four-year course. The students will be required to study for two hours and work in eight-hour shifts.

The classes would be held as per the shift duty of the students in the industries, which will pay a monthly salary of Rs 7000 to each student. The students will get a hike of Rs 500 in their salary each year.
