“The ministry of home affairs today (Saturday) directed the National Investigation Agency to take up the investigation of four cases registered by Assam Police relating to the recent attacks by suspected NDFB(S) group in the two districts of Sonitpur and Kokrajhar in which a large number of people were killed,” an official statement said.

The Assam government had recommended that the investigation of these cases should be handed over to the NIA.

“Considering the gravity of the offences and relevant factors,” the central government agreed to get these probed by the NIA.

Violence unleashed by Bodo militants has left 73 people dead and rendered over 70,000 homeless in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Sonitpur and Udalguri. (IANS)
