Centre recommends Odisha to waive off tax for Urea plant in Talcher

Bhubaneswar: Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers recommended Odisha government to waive off different cess and taxes for the proposed Urea plant in Talcher.

Drawing the attention of Odisha government to set up the plant, Union Fertilizer Secretary Bharathi Sivaswami Sihag urged State Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi to waive off the GST on materials required for the proposed plant along with cutting the stamp duty and power tariff.

The Ministry has assigned joint secretary Sushil Kumar Lohani, the Odisha cadre IAS officer, to keep coordination with the state government for early execution of the project in Talcher.

Talcher Fertilizer Limited (TFL) has been given the charge to set up the Urea plant in Talcher, which will produce over annual 10 lakh MT.

As the fertilizer that will be produced from the plant using coal gasification technology will be expensive, the Union government sought cooperation of Odisha government to minimize the cost of fertilizer and providing the fertilizer to the farmers at affordable prices.

The Centre has allocated Arakhpal coal block for the proposed the plant, which will be set up at investment of around Rs 9,000 crore.
