“In the interest of popular Odia sentiments on Lord Jagannath, I shall be grateful if you could kindly look into the matter and issue necessary advice to the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, Puri to furnish a few designs or photos of Lord Jagannath expeditiously. This will enable them to take further action in the matter to release the Commemorative Coin of Lord Jagannath,” wrote Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a letter addressed to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Culture has been requesting the chairman of the managing committee to furnish a few designs or photos of Lord Jagannath for the purpose, Pradhan said.

However, the managing committee has sought time to finalize new designs or photos of the deities, he added.

The Union Minister pointed out that Ministry of Culture has written letters to the managing committee on February 11, February 24 and April 7, 2016. The Ministry has been pursuing the matter with temple administration, he added.
