Bhubaneswar: A youth working at CESU in Cuttack was arrested by the Commissionerate police here for allegedly ditching his girlfriend after a year-long live-in relationship.

The accused was identified as Debasish Swain (30), a resident of Chhatia area in Cuttack district.

He was arrested following an order by the Bhubaneswar SDJM Court.

According to reports, the victim works at a government office. Debasish and the woman had been in live-relationship for the past one year. The couple had decided to tie the knot with each other on March 9. However, the youth started avoiding her after the woman's family refused to give dowry demanded by his uncle for marriage.

Dumped by the beau, the victim had approached the police against the youth. However, the police did not receive her complaint.

Later, she moved the Bhubaneswar SDJM Court seeking justice. The court ordered the Nayapali police to arrest the youth. The duo underwent medical examination following which rape case was lodged against the accused.

A case has also been filed against the youth's uncle, who is at large.
