Charanjit Singh Channi to be new Chief Minister of Punjab

Punjab: Ending speculations over who will be the next Chief Minister of Punjab, the Congress Legislature Party of the State today evening unanimously elected Charanjit Singh Channi as its leader.

In a tweet, Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat stated, “Charanjit Singh Channi has been unanimously elected as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab.”

Rawat added Channi will be the new Punjab Chief Minister.

Reacting to the development Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said, “It’s high command’s decision…, I welcome it. Channi is like my younger brother…I am not at all disappointed…”

Earlier in the day, reports doing rounds that Randhawa will become the next Chief Minister of Punjab.

The Congress had been holding several meets since Saturday after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
