Chargesheet filed in VSP executive murder case in Odisha

Commissionerate police on Friday filed a preliminary charge sheet against eight persons in connection with the murder of Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) assistant general manager (AGM) I Surya Prasad Rao in the Odisha capital on the night of January 4 at the SDJM Court here.

The police had recovered the body of the senior official of the VSP near the Hanuman mandir behind Sainik School in VSS Nagar area under Saheed Nagar police early the next morning.

In the charge sheet, police have slapped 302 of IPC (murder) charges against eight accused, including the kingpins Guruji alias Piddina Laxman Rao alias Vadi Rammana (50) of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh and Srinibas Panda (40) alias Nibas of Balaram village under the Begunia police limits in Khordha district, both of whom were hard-core criminals.

The other charges slapped by the Mancheswar police against the accused persons are under sections 364, 342, 396, 386 and 120 (B) of IPC.

The other six accused persons named in the charge sheet are Abid Khan (30) of Rayagada, Manoj Kumar Rout alias Luna (31) of Raghunathpur on the outskirts of the city and Kulamani Rout (37) of Gopalpur village in Kendrapara district, P Laxman Rao, Karunakar Nishal and Mohammed Sadhu.

The charge sheet, running into about 300 pages, contains 30 witness depositions, including those of police personnel, and related documents.

The charge sheet filed today is only a preliminary one to meet the statutory requirement of filing the charge sheet within 120 days and a supplementary charge sheet could follow, said commissionerate police sources.

The police have described the whole sequence of events leading to the murder executed by the accused and have given the details of weapon of offence used in the sordid crime in the charge sheet to make the case strong.
