Check out these quirky Odia one-liners on funky merchandise for unique gift ideas

Bhubaneswar: Odia is a classical language that has some really whacky one-liners and words, that sometimes vary from region to region. From the classic “bobbal” to the now-trending “kan kala se”, the khaanti Odia lingo has many viral terms and slangs full of humour and wit.

A brand called Studio Sarcastic Odisha in the capital city uses such typical terms and punchlines, coupled with amusing art work on a variety of merchandise such as mugs, coasters, phone covers and shot glasses. These make for superb gift ideas for loved ones and can even be owned to make style statement.

Started by Proshish Gohlyan, Studio Sarcastic Odisha products have a variety of one-liners including Ollywood inspired dialogues and songs such as “Maa Raan, Full Bobbal” and “Mo Bopalo” and the quintessential Odia mother questions like “Aaji ghare khaaibu ta?”

“There are are many brands that have these in other languages, but not a single brand that sells merchandise with Odia content. I saw the designs of Studio Sarcastic in Nepal and wanted to being it to Odisha. I have an artist in Nepal who does the doodle art work while the Odia content are suggested by people here in Odisha,” said Proshish, who gets the designs printed in New Delhi. A few designs also come with blank speech bubbles where one can add their own text with a marker.

These products are currently available in a local cafe in Bhubaneswar and can be ordered via Studio Sarcastic Odisha Facebook page. It also home delivers for orders above Rs.1500. Planners with Odia content are coming up next. “The mugs have become a rage and we are completly out of stock. So we are in the process of re-stocking now. We also accept bulk orders, for corporates,” added Proshish.
