Child delivered in Odisha hosp using torch light

Getting a child delivered using torch light in the absence of electricity and doctors in a government-run health centre in Odisha’s Malkangiri district has yet again exposed the sorry state of affairs in health services infrastructure in the state.

A pregnant woman -Ratna Padiami of Talasara village in the district was rushed to Padmagiri Public Health Centre (PHC) on having labour pain, reports said.

There was neither power nor a doctor at the PHC. As Ratna’s pain increased, the paramedics at the PHC got the child delivered using torch light, reports added.
