Bhubaneswar: A day after getting bail from the Supreme Court, Chilika MLA Prasanta Jagdev was today released from the Banapur Sub-Jail.

The apex court had yesterday granted conditional bail to the legislator. As per the bail condition, the MLA cannot visit his Assembly constituency for a year.

However, if the legislator wishes to visit the constituency, he has to take prior permission from the district Collector.

The Supreme Court also ordered that Jagdev cannot hold any political meeting with more than five persons at a time, if he visits the constituency.

He was arrested on March 22 for allegedly ramming his SUV into a gathering outside the Banapur block office, leaving 22 persons, including police personnel, injured on March 12. The crowd was present in front of the block office due to election to the Panchayat Samiti Chairperson post.

Following the incident, the irate mob thrashed the MLA and ransacked his vehicle. Jagadev sustained critical injuries in the attack and was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

After his discharge from the healthcare facility, Jagadev was arrested. He was produced before the Court of JMFC, Banapur and remanded to judicial custody at the Banapur Sub-Jail.
