Cuttack, Sep 27:
The Utkal Bharat on Thursday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Odisha High Court challenging the announcement of creation of a corpus fund of Rs 300 crore by the state government to help the chit fund victims.
Arguing that the corpus fund would be constituted from the common taxpayers’ money, the PIL, filed by the party treasurer Sk Kamiluddin and general secretary Bishnudutta Arya, asked as to why the state government has not yet attached the properties of the owners of fraudulent chit fund companies to facilitate refund the duped investors’ money.
Meanwhile, the Finance department has refused to provide information to Utkal Bharat president Kharabela Swain about the source of money for the corpus fund stating that it does not come under the purview of RTI. (MM)
