Civil supplies official arrested for amassing disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar: Assistant Civil Supplies Officer of Nayagarh district, Jayanta Kumar Das was arrested today for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Odisha Vigilance arrested Das and forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Bhubaneswar for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.6 crore, which he could not account for satisfactorily. He has been remanded to the judicial custody till December 18, 2021.

Based on allegations of amassing disproportionate assets, the Odisha Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at five places associated with Das on December 4, 2021.

The five teams of Odisha Vigilance conducted the raids on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry of Das’ income, expenditure and assets, the Vigilance found that the official was in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 1,60,16,216, a 137% of his known sources of income.

In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No.41 dt.5.12.2021 has been registered against Jayanta Kumar Das and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
