CKD patient awaiting transplantation duped by tout in Odisha’s Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: A man in Odisha’s Cuttack city has allegedly duped a kidney patient of Rs 12.5 lakh on promise of arranging an organ donor for the latter.

The Mangalabag police in the Silver City have detained accused Markand Nath of Ranihaat area and his wife for questioning in connection with the duping case.

As per the allegations, Kutulu Kumar Majhi, a resident of Keonjhar district, has been suffering from kidney-related ailments for last several days.

Doctors at the Nephrology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack had advised Kutulu for a kidney transplant after examining his health conditions thoroughly some days ago.

Kutulu, somehow, came in contact with accused Markand Nath, who promised him of arranging a kidney donor.

Kutulu reportedly paid Rs 12.5 lakh to Nath in several installments to arrange the organ donor. However, the accused did not keep his promise even though he had been paid the money around a year ago.

Kutulu and his wife along with the locals confronted the accused near his home today, sources said.

The accused reportedly told the locals that he had received only Rs 4 lakh from Kutulu for arranging a kidney donor.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and detained the accused and his wife, sources added.
