Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a minor girl reportedly died of snakebite in  a government residential school in Bhanjanagar block of Odisha's Ganjam district here today. The deceased was identified as Ridhi Pradhan, a Class I student at Darpangia residential school in the block.

The incident took place on Sunday night when Ridhi was sleeping in the hostel. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she succumbed during treatment.

As per reports, the children were sleeping in the ward when a venomous snake bit Ridhi. On hearing her screams, others students woke up and spotted the snake. Hostel authorities on getting the information, reached the spot and immediately took Ridhi to Bhanjanagar hospital. Her father Gobarsingh Pradhan was also informed.

However, early in the morning at around 6 am, doctors declared her dead.

A pall of gloom descended following the incident.
