Bhubaneswar: A Class-VI girl was found hanging in a private hostel under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

The girl, aged around 11, was reportedly found hanging in the toilet of the hostel at MV-7 village under Malkangiri Sadar block.

She was declared dead by the doctors at Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The minor girl was a resident of MPV-130 village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri. However, she was studying at a school at MV-7 village by staying in the private hostel.

The girl’s family alleged that she has been murdered and sought a proper investigation into the incident.

Accepting a complaint in this regard, the Malkangiri police have launched a probe into the incident and sent the body for postmortem.

“We will go through the postmortem report to ascertain the exact reason behind the girl’s death,” said a police official.

The locals, meanwhile, alleged that the private hostel did not have the required permission for providing accommodation to school students. They urged the district administration to take stern action against the private hostel.
