Class-X girl, dad critical in attack over one-sided love affair in Odisha’s Balasore

Bhubaneswar: A Class-X girl and her father were allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by a youth over a one-sided love affair in Balasore district of Odisha today.

The incident took place at Kalyani panchayat under Gopalpur police outpost limits in Balasore in the morning. The girl and her father have sustained grievous injuries in the attack, sources said.

The youth, identified as Navin Mallick of Talapada, intercepted the girl while she was on her way to school and proposed her for a relationship.

Navin pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked the girl soon after she rejected his proposal. He also attacked the girl’s father when the latter tried to intervene and fled the spot, villagers said.

Locals rescued the father-daughter duo and rushed them to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
