Classes of two new Odisha varsities to commence from June 2020

Bhubaneswar: The classes of newly established unitary universities in Balangir and Kalahandi will commence from June 1, 2020.

The academic session of new unitary university at Balangir, called the Rajendra University and unitary university at Bhawanipatna, called Kalahandi University will begin from June 1, 2020, the Higher Education Department said in two separate notifications dated yesterday.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub sections (1) and (2) and clause (g) of sub section (3) of section 32 of the Odisha Universities Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the state government altered the territorial jurisdiction of the Sambalpur University by excluding the revenue districts of Balangir and Sonepur by including the same in the Rajendra University with effect from June 2020.

With the move, the colleges located within the revenue districts of Balangir and Sonepur will be disaffiliated from the Sambalpur University and be affiliated to the Rajendra University at Balangir with effect from that date.

Similarly, the colleges located within Kalahandi and Nuapada revenue districts will be disaffiliated from the Sambalpur University and be affiliated to the Kalahandi University at Bhawanipatna under Odisha Universities Act, 1989, with effect from June 2020.

Worth mentioning, the government had recently upgraded the Government Autonomous College at Bhawanipatna and Rajendra Autonomous College at Balangir to Kalahandi University and Rajendra University respectively.
