Kendrapara: A doctor had a narrow escape from a firecracker explosion after his car ran over the crackers on a village road in Odisha's Kendrapara district today.

While the front portion of the car was completely damaged, the doctor sustained injuries in the explosion. The victim has been taken to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

According to reports, Dr. Sujit Samal was traveling to Cuttack in his car this morning. At Khandiabandi village in Kendrapara district, a big explosion took place after his car ran over crackers that were kept on the rural road for drying.

Reports said that the person, who was drying the crackers on the road, is at large following the incident. The police seized the illegal crackers.

"We heard a loud explosion and found the car was damaged. The driver of the car who is a doctor fortunately escaped. He managed to come out of the car. The person, who was illegally manufacturing the crackers, used the village road for drying. The crackers suddenly burst into flames, causing extensive damage to the car, after the vehicle ran over it on the road," said a local.
