CM congratulates first woman scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty on being selected for IUPAC Award

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated eminent Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty on her being selected as the first woman in the country for the coveted IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) Award 2023.

Taking to his personal Twitter handle, the Chief Minister expressed, “I congratulate the Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty, who has been selected for the prestigious IUPAC Award 2023 @IUPAC as the country’s first woman. Her achievement in the field of chemistry is a matter of pride and glory for all. I wish her to scale greater heights of success in the coming days.”

Mohanty is a scientist working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai and she has been awarded in the ‘Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering’ category.

It is pertinent to mention, the woman scientist is a daughter-in-law of Titira village under Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur district. She is the wife of scientist Rashmiranjan Mohanty and the daughter of Dr Baikunthanath Patra from Cuttack.

IUPAC recently announced the names of 12 recipients, in order to celebrate International Day of Women in science. The awards ceremony was previously constituted as part of the 2011 International Year of Chemistry celebrations. It is held every year to promote and acknowledge the works of women chemists and chemical engineers worldwide.
