CM releases report on Odisha Climate Change Action Plan

In a first of its kind initiative in the country, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today unveiled a report on the state government’s Action Plan on climate change to be implemented in the next five years.

The chief minister released the report on Action Plan on climate change at a special programme organised by state forest and environment department at the conference hall in the state secretariat today.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said that the action plan prepared by the state government would help reduce the impact on climate change. Besides, it would also protect the lives and livelihood of the communities, he added.

The Chief Minister expressed optimism over the fruitfulness of the second phase action plan for 2015-20.

Keeping in view climatic changes, the action plan has been formulated for the departments of agriculture, water resources, power, urban development, forest and disaster management and others to ensure the impact of the climate change do not affect the life and properties of the people in the state, an official said.

Emphasis has been laid on disaster mitigation and livelihood protection, the official added.

The report released today carried the various measures undertaken by different departments to lessen the effect of climate change.

Notably, Odisha has earned the distinction of being the first state in the country to implement a climate change action plan.
