CMC bans ‘Zero Night’ celebrations in Odisha’s Cuttack city

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) today issued a fresh advisory asking denizens to stay away from ‘Zero Night’ Celebrations on the New Year’s eve in Cuttack city in view of the pandemic situation.

In its order, the CMC said ‘Zero Night’ celebration at hotels/clubs/convention halls/kalyan mandaps is prohibited. Also, large gathering for the celebration at any other place is not allowed.

The civic body’s order further stated, “Everyone is advised and requested to celebrate New Year with their family/friends/relatives at their private house/establishments with adherence of Covid appropriate behavior.”

Earlier in the day, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) also took similar step and prohibited ‘zero night’ celebration in the Capital City.

Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange announced all type of celebration on New Year eve will be prohibited in the district. Also, beaches in the district to remain shut for people on December 31 and January 1.

The State government on November 30, 2020, prohibited large social gatherings to contain the spread of Covid-19.
