Coal-laden train catches fire at Soro station in Odisha’s Balasore (Watch video)

Soro: A goods train carrying coal caught fire today evening at Platform No-1 of Soro railway station in Balasore district, for a reason not known yet. However, a major fire mishap could be averted due to the prompt action of some railway employees.

According to sources, the goods train was on its way from Nergundi of Cuttack district to Durgapur of neighbouring West Bengal. Some railway staff noticed the inferno near Markona station while the train was moving. Immediately, they brought it to the knowledge of their department higher-ups.

Swinging into action, the Markona stationmaster alerted the guard of the train and Soro stationmaster as well. Later, the goods train was halted at Soro and a team of local fire services personnel doused the flames after striving for some time.

It is pertinent to mention here that a wagon of stationary goods train caught fire at Rupsa railway station in Balasore on June 10. Prompt action by fire services personnel prevented any untoward incident.

The freight train carrying coal from West Bengal to Balasore was stationed at the Rupsa Junction. The station employees noticed smoke coming out of the wagon. The train left for its destination after the fire was brought under control.
