Coal-laden truck runs over two youths, critical; journo including locals come to rescue

Sundargarh: A coal-laden truck ran over two motorcycle-borne youths today at around 11.00 am on Chhatenpali-Hemgiri road in Sundargarh districts.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the speeding heavy vehicle (bearing registration number OD-16 J-0696) lost control of it and hit the youths and ran over them leaving the duo critically injured.

A journalist named Labani Meher was passing by that road after the mishap. Meher with the help of a local resident Bijay Nayak and his wife rescued the injured from beneath the truck.

On being informed, Chhatenpali police reached the spot and sent the injured to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment. Their condition is critical now, an official said.

Police have launched a probe in this connection, which is underway.

Locals have heaped praises on Meher, Nayak and the latter’s wife for helping the injured.
