Odisha will request Centre for modernizing boats deployed for coastal security, informed a state government official.

“Boats deployed for providing security in coastal areas are not suitable. These will be modernized. Centre will be requested for this,” stated Asit Tripathy, Principal Secretary Home Department after attending a review meeting on coastal security chaired by Chief Secretary A P Padhi here today.
Notably, the state has only 13 boats for coastal security purpose in 18 marine police stations.
The state government has already provided identity cards to 2.6 lakh fishermen and would soon make available such cards to another 40,000, official sources said.
