Cocaine seized in Bhubaneswar was procured for Hockey World Cup 2023

Bhubaneswar: Two days after the arrest of two youth for possession of cocaine, Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch today made a startling revelation saying that the drug procured for its sale to foreign nationals during the upcoming Hockey World Cup 2023.

Earlier on April 13, two youth–Ravi and Sunny Kumar– were arrested on charges of possession of cocaine weighing 202 grams.

STF sources said accused Ravi, a native of Rajasthan, had procured the expensive drug from his boss operating from Delhi. Ravi has hotel business in Rajasthan and also operates a travel agency in Delhi. He had come in contact with the Delhi-based supplier of cocaine during 2010 Common Wealth Games held in the national capital. The duo had come to Odisha in a train via Gaya.

While arresting the two, the STF  team had seized currency notes of South Africa from their possession. Besides, the cops had also found several foreign contacts in his mobile phone.

STF sources said the two, who were staying in Salia Sahi slum here, were targeting students of some reputed colleges and universities for selling of the contraband item.

Further investigation in this connection is underway from all angles. Meanwhile, a team has been sent to Delhi as part of the probe, said STF sources.
