Cold wave condition in Odisha throws life out of gear

Bhubaneswar: Cold wave swept across Odisha with the mercury plunged by 4 degree Celsius in most of the places during 24 hours affecting the normal life.

As many as 10 places including Phulbani and Daringbadi in the state recorded below 10 degree Celsius yesterday night. While the minimum temperature was 4.5 degree Celsius in Phulbani, the coldest place in the state, Bhubaneswar recorded 11.9 degree Celsius. The temperature dropped by 3.4 degree Celsius here as compared to previous day.

While Daringbadi recorded 8 degree Celsius yesterday night, Hirakud 8.1 degree Celsius, Keonjhar 8.4 degree Celsius, Bhawanipatna 9 degree Celsius, Koraput 9.5 degree Celsius, Angul 9.6 degree Celsius, Sonepur 9.6 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 9.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 9.8 degree Celsius and Sundargarh recorded 10 degree Celsius.

Similarly, Balangir, Cuttack and Balasore recorded 10.5 degree Celsius, 11.5 degree Celsius and 11.6 degree Celsius respectively.

The cold will continue in the next four to five days, Bhubaneswar MeT said.

On the other hand, thin layer of snowfall was visible at G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district this morning. For the first time, people witnessed the snowfall in the district this winter.

Dense fog was observed at isolated places in north Odisha in the early morning. The IMD predicted shallow to moderate fog at isolated places over Odisha during next two days.
