Cold wave grips Odisha; Similiguda shivers at 2 degree C

Bhubaneswar: Cold wave conditions gripped Odisha as mercury plummeted below 10 degree Celsius at 21 places yesterday night.

As per weather realised during last 24 hours over the districts of Odisha, Similiguda of Koraput district recorded 2 degree Celsius, becoming the coldest place in the state.

The minimum temperature dropped to 4.4 degree C in Kirei, 4.6 in G Udayagiri, 5 degree C in Phulbani, 6.4 degree C in Rourkela, 6.5 degree C in Sundargarh, 6.5 degree C in Koraput, 6.6 degree C in Jharsuguda, 6.7 degree C in Daringibadi, 7.2 degree C in Keonjhar, 7.2 degree C in Bhawanipatna, 8 degree C in Dhenkanal, 8.5 degree C in Sonepur, 8.6 degree C in Angul, 9 degree C in Baripada, 9 degree C in Nabarangpur, 9.3 degree C in Sambalpur, 9.4 degree C in Ranital, 9.5 degree C in Bhadrak, 9.5 degree C in Mahisapat and 9.6 degree C in Hirakud.

Twin City Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered 10.5 degree C and 11.5 degree C respectively last night.

According to Bhubaneswar MeT, there will be no large change in night temperature during next 2 days and gradual rise by 2-4 degree C in subsequent period over the districts.

The meteorological department has issued yellow warning for Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Angul districts where isolated cold wave conditions likely to prevail till January 9 morning. The cold wave conditions are likely to affect Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Angul districts between January 9 morning and January 10 morning.
