Cold wave sweeps Odisha, Phulbani shivers at 5.2

Most parts of Odisha came under an intense cold wave today as the mercury dipped to single digit at 12 places. The Met office has warned that the cold wave condition would remain unchanged till another week.

“The condition for north-easterly wind towards Odisha has become favourable as the trough line over the state has been cleared. As a result, the state will experience intense cold wave conditions till December 21,” said Dr Sarat Sahu, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

According to a release by the Met office here this evening, Phulbani was the coldest place of the day with 5.2 degree Celsius.

Temperature also slumped to below 10 degree Celsius in Baripada (9.8), Jharsuguda (8.9), Keonjhar (8.7), Sundargarh (7.9), Hirakud (9.8), Bhawanipatna (9.5), Koraput (9), Titlagarh (9), Malkangiri (9.2), Daringbadi (6.5) and Dhenkanal (9.3).

While Bhubaneswar recorded 13.4 degree Celsius, temperature also came down sharply in Baleswar (11.1), Chandbali (13), Cuttack (14), Paradip (15.7), Gopalpur (14.1), Puri (15.4), Angul (10), Sambalpur (10.3), Talcher (13) and Sonepur (11).
