Collectors in Odisha asked to monitor situation closely following heavy rain forecast

Bhubaneswar: As the weathermen today predicted a possible low pressure over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during next 48 hours, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena asked the District Collectors to monitor the situation closely.

The SRC directed the districts under orange and yellow warning to remain prepared to meet any water logging and localized flood like situation in low lying areas including urban areas. He also asked the government officials to ensure functioning of control room round the clock.

He also asked the officials to ensure advice for fishermen be strictly implemented.

The weathermen advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till October 2, 2020.

Orange warning has been issued for Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts. There is a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the districts till 8:30 AM on October 1. Yellow warning was issued for Koraput, Rayagada, Khordha, Boudh, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Sambalpur, Kalahandi and Bhadrak districts.

Till 8:30 AM on October 2, orange warning was issued for Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara and Dhenkanal districts. Yellow warning was issued for Ganjam, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Boudh and Khordha.

Yellow warning was issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Angul districts till 8:30 am of October 3.

Yellow warning was issued for Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Jajpur and Bhadrak till 8:30 am on October 4.

Yellow warning was also issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir and Kalahandi with forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places of the districts. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul and Bargarh districts.
