Bhubaneswar: The state government has put all district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners on alert in view of the IMD prediction of heavy rainfall in Odisha from June 26.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu today asked all district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to take immediate steps to deal with possible flashflood, flood-like situation, waterlogging and landslide due to the heavy rain.

“The IMD, Bhubaneswar, has forecast that there may be intense spell of rainfall across the state from June 26 due to active monsoon. As a result, there may be instances of flashfloods, flood-like situation, waterlogging and landslide at different locations,” said the SRC in a letter to the district collectors and Municipal Commissioners.

The SRC asked the officials to relocate the people from low-lying places to safer locations in case of heavy rain.

The Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been told to keep ready adequate number of pumps to drain out rainwater.

Similarly, the authorities concerned have been asked to regulate vehicular traffic on submerged roads.

The SRC also directed the officials to ensure proper monitoring of weak and vulnerable points in river and canal embankments.

Notably, the IMD has predicted the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal around June 26.

As per the IMD prediction, several districts in Odisha are very likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 26 to June 28.
