College girl found hanging in hostel in Odisha’s Cuttack city

Cuttack: Body of a girl student of a college was found hanging inside a room of a private hostel near Mission Road in Odisha’s Cuttack city, today.

The deceased has been identified as Arpita Rout, a +2 second year student of Emarti Devi Women’s College here. She was staying at the hostel for the last three months.

Hostel authorities and inmates spotted the body hanging with a rope inside the room this morning and informed police. Though the exact reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that she took the extreme step of committing suicide by hanging herself.

Cantonment police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Investigation into the incident is underway.
