College lecturer dies 9 months after being beaten by student in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: A lecturer of PKSS College located in Katapali of Jharsuguda district was allegedly beaten by his student on February 22, 2023. However, the critically injured faculty died in the wee hours of today while undergoing treatment in a government-run health facility for nearly the last nine months.

The deceased identified as Amit Barik had an altercation over a matter leading to the death.

It is pertinent to mention here that Amit was thrashed on the intervening day following an argument after the accused Plus III Second-Year student turned up late to attend his class. When asked about the delay, the student identified as Rajesh Sahisa became furious and there was a heated altercation between the two. Things took an ugly turn when Rajesh beat Amit leaving him critically injured.

The lecturer, who sustained grievous injuries, was rescued by other students and rushed to a health facility in Jharsuguda town and was later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla as his condition deteriorated.

Rajesh is a resident of the OPM locality in Brajarajnagar town. The accused student was previously arrested in connection with the incident and a probe was initiated by local police. He has been lodged in jail.
