Community spread! Local cases spike in last 24 hours in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: It seems Bhubaneswar is going to be the next COVID-19 hotspot as there has been a steep spike of fresh cases in a last few days. A day after single-day surge, the city reported 87 new positive cases in last 24 hours.

For the first time, local contact cases surpassed the quarantine cases in a single day in Bhubaneswar putting the State authorities on their toes.

Out of 87 new cases, 46 are local contacts and 41 cases have been detected from quarantine centres, informed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today.

With 87 new cases, the tally in the State capital reached 1130 with 624 active cases. The city registered 11 fatalities due to COVID-19 so far.

Here’s update on newly detected COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours under BMC area on July 18:

Following detection of new COVID cases, further contact tracing is still continuing. Primary contacts and nearby houses are being quarantined, sanitised and will be under active surveillance, the BMC tweeted.
