Condition of Odisha’s one of conjoined twins Jaga unwell

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Condition of Jaga, one of the conjoined twins of Kandhamal district, is not well after first phase surgery conducted at AIIMS in New Delhi.

The condition of Jaga is not well, but his twin brother Balia is stable, informed Odisha Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena here today.

The second phase of operation to separate the conjoined twins will be conducted after Jaga gets well soon, he said.

The state government has kept close eyes on the health condition of the conjoined twins. The initiative will be taken later for second phase separation surgery, he added.

Both the twins are undergoing treatment at AIIMS by the doctor from the US. They have been put under observation.

The 28-month-old twins hailing from a poor family in Milipada village of Phiringia block in the tribal-dominated Kandhamal district were taken to AIIMS on July 13 and a team of 40 doctors conducted the 20-hour long first surgery on them.

As per the doctors, Jaga and Balia are craniopagus twins that are fused at the cranium – the skull, especially the part enclosing the brain.

Odisha government had sanctioned Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the treatment of the twins.
