New Delhi: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) today directed Odisha DGP, Abhay to probe the death of a minor tribal girl in Kotpad area of Koraput district in an impartial manner.

The commission asked the DGP to conduct an independent and impartial inquiry into the matter and submit the action taken report (ATR) within a period of 15 days.

On July 21, the tribal girl was found hanging from a tree near Bagchuan village under Chitra panchayat in Kotpad. Alleging rape and murder of the girl, her family members lodged an FIR at the local police.

But the minor girl’s post mortem report later showed she died by suicide.

Few days back BJP Odisha, State Vice President Sukeshi Oram and BJP’s ST Morcha National Vice President, Kaliram Manjhi knocked the doors of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes seeking its intervention into the matter.

In their petition, the BJP leaders demanded the post-mortem report to be made public and registration of an FIR. Alleging manipulation in the case, the leaders also demanded booking the case under the SC and ST (POA) Act and POCSO Act against the Koraput district authorities and concerned Police and Health Officials.
