Sundargarh, Aug 11:

Normal life was affected in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today due to a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Congress protesting the construction of barrage in the upper catchment area of Ib river by the Chhattisgarh government and distribution of ration cards to eligible beneficiaries.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement was largely affected due to the bandh. Security has been beefed up in the district to prevent any untoward situation.

Meanwhile, a scuffle ensued between Congress workers and some shopkeepers at daily market in Rourkela over opening of shops during the bandh.

Announcing about the bandh call yesterday, Sundargarh District Congress Committee president Dusmanta Kumar Nayak had said that water flow to lower catchment areas will decrease if the proposed barrage is constructed.
