Cong leader Sabitri Sahu no more

The mortal remains of senior Congress leader and former general secretary of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Sabitri Sahu. who passed away at the age of 62 at a private hospital here last night, were consigned to flames at the Swarga Dwar in Puri this evening.sabitri sahu

Her younger brother and senior IPS officer Soumendra Priyadarshi was present at the cremation site.

Ms Sahu was battling a second round of cancer attack for the last 11 days.

She is survived by two daughters and a son all of whom are settled abroad. Her husband Hemant Sahu who was a senior lawyer at the Bhubaneswar Bar had died prematurely at the age of 57.

Ms Sahu who took to active politics at an early age was a dedicated social worker and an idealist who commanded respect from all including leaders of rival political parties.

Committed to pro-people politics, she was always at the forefront of movements that had anything to do with people’s issues.

Ms Sahu was the former chairperson of the  Odisha State Council for Child Welfare (OSCCW).
