Cong MLA seeks Speaker’s nod to speak in Kosali in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Congress Legislature Party leader and Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra today sought permission from the Speaker to speak in Kosali language in the Odisha Assembly.

The Congress leader moved a proposal in this regard at an all-party meeting convened by Speaker Pramila Mallik ahead of the Winter Session of the Assembly.

“The people of Western Odisha often complain about the state government’s neglect towards Kosali. I moved a proposal before the Speaker seeking permission to speak in Kosali in the Assembly. The Speaker has agreed to my proposal,” Mishra told media persons soon after the meeting.

The Speaker, however, said she would take the necessary steps in this regard in the future.

“Now, the Assembly does not have the required infrastructure to keep record of any member’s speech in Kosali. We will make the necessary arrangements in the future,” she added.

Commenting on the issue, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief whip in Odisha Assembly Prasant Muduli said members are free to speak in any of the languages recognized by the House to carry out the business.
