Cong names candidates for 75 Assembly seats in Odisha; senior leaders Niranjan Patnaik, Jaydev Jena in poll fray

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party today announced 75 candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in Odisha.

The party had earlier announced candidates for 47 Assembly seats in the state for 2024 polls.

The party has fielded former minister and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik from Bhandaripokhari Assembly seat in Bhadrak district.

Another senior Congress leader Jaydev Jena got the ticket to fight the polls from Anandapur seat in Keonjhar district.

The party has picked woman leader Bandita Parida to contest the ensuing Assembly polls from Korei seat in Jajpur.

Former MLA Debasis Patnaik got the Congress nomination for Banki seat in Cuttack segment while Pruthvi Ballav Patnaik, the son of former Chief Minister Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, has been nominated by the party for Begunia seat in Khurda district.

The Grand Old party has fielded woman leader Meera Mallick from Choudwar-Cuttack Assembly segment and youth leader Sujit Mahapatra from Puri seat.

Debasmita Sharma, the daughter of former MLA Debendra Sharma, has been nominated by the Congress party to fight the polls from Aul segment in Kendrapara district while Prasanta Kumar Champati is the Congress candidate for Bhubhaneswar-Ekamra constituency in Odisha capital here.

The party has picked Santosh Jena for Jatni seat in Khurda district and Ranjikant Padhi for Hinjili Assembly constituency in Ganjam district.

Notably, the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha will be held in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.

The counting of votes will be done on June 4.
