Congress announces candidate for Jharsuguda bypoll in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced the candidate for the ensuing bypoll to Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency in Odisha.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge nominated Tarun Pandey as the candidate of party for the upcoming bypoll in Odisha.

Tarun Pandey is son of three-time former Jharsuguda MLA Biren Pandey, who passed away last month.

Tarun is a fresh face in the bypoll. For the first time, he will contest in an election.

However, the young leader is confident of sweeping the bypoll on the basis of his abundant political experience as he was involved in election process since 2000.

Worth mentioning, Jharsuguda bypoll is scheduled on May 10. The counting of votes will take place on May 13. The process for filling the nomination papers will begin from April 13 till 20.

The bypoll was necessitated after the murder of Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das, who was State Health & Family Welfare Minister, on January 29.

While Odisha’s ruling BJD has fielded slain minister’s daughter Dipali Das as its candidate for the bypoll, opposition BJP is yet to announce its candidate formally for the bypoll. However, the rumours are doing the rounds that the party may field Tankadhar Tripathy as its nominee for the upcoming bypoll.
