Congress to hold tractor rally against new agriculture bills in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Congress has decided to hold a mega tractor rally in Odisha against new farm bills cleared by the Parliament.

The state unit of Congress will take out the tractor rally on November 9 opposing the three controversial agriculture bills. The stir will be attended by Odisha Congress in-charge A. Chellakumar, informed Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik in a press conference yesterday.

The tractor rally will be taken out at 9.00 am on Monday next week from Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar to Cuttack. It is scheduled to reach the party office at Shaktinagar via Dhakulei Temple, 42 Mouza and Press Chhak in Cuttack city.

Along with Chellakumar, PCC President Niranjan Patnaik, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra and many others are scheduled to join the protest.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had held tractor rallies in Punjab and Haryana from October 4 to 6 to protest against the new farm bills. To continue the agitation, Odisha Congress has decided to organise the tractor rally to give voice to farmers, whose livelihood and future has been put at stake by the Central legislations, a source in the party said.

Besides, Congress has decided to observe 131st birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on November 14. On the occasion, the party will hold a mega public awareness programme titled ‘Speak up for PSUs’ on social media platforms criticizing the Centre’s privatisation policy. A day before the programme i.e on November 13, a seminar will be organised at the Congress Bhawan to highlight the contribution of the late Congressman for formation of new India.
