Bhubaneswar: Rift within state unit of Congress continued to grow with a large number of party workers hit the streets here today over suspension of two strong leaders Mohammed Moquim and Chiranjib Biswal.

Hundreds of party workers supporting Moquim and Chiranjib barged into Congress Bhawan to meet OPCC President Sarat Pattanayak demanding immediate revocation of suspension order against two leaders.

As they failed to discuss the matter with the party chief, they staged demonstration at Master Canteen against the suspension.

Opposing suspension of Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim and former working president Chiranjib Biswal, the party workers termed the move by OPCC president as 'undemocratic'.

"The way our party leaders Moquim and Biswal were suspended from the party, it was completely undemocratic. Without asking for explanation from them, the party chief took strong action," one of the protestors alleged.

"We want our leaders back in our fold. They were not indulged in any anti-party activity. The purpose behind organising the programmes that the Congress chief regard as anti-party activities, was to make the party stronger uniting the partymen," said another supporter.

The protestors threatened to intensify agitation in upcoming days if the party did not issue withdrawal order of their suspension.
