Begunia: A fraudster who came to buy a goat today and later decamped with the herbivore posing as a customer exchanged fake currency notes with an elderly man near Haj village under Siko outpost and Jankia police limits in Khurda district, on the occasion of Chhadakhai.
Interestingly, the conman bartered away a few dummy currency notes with the goat, the face value of which is Rs 9,000, as per the deal finalised between the elderly man and the fraudster.
According to a source, the 70-year-old victim Pandav Nayak from Adivasi Sahi of the village was grazing a herd of domesticated goats on a forest land near Tankola Chhak on Haj-Siko road. The unidentified trickster came near him riding a motorcycle and bargained with Pandav for a goat.
After the deal was finalised for Rs 9,000, the fraudster paid Pandav in dummy currency notes and fled from the spot by carrying the herbivore in a large jute bag.
Initially, the elderly man could not ascertain whether the notes were genuine ones of fake. However, after returning home, he came to know that he was cheated by the trickster.
